Few things can bring high school students to school at 8 AM in the summertime, but the anticipation of getting to meet a new group of MESA Bridge Campers was more than enough to have this year's mentors dressed and blue and ready to coach our campers through math, physics, and build challenges.
After getting to know each other, the campers used nothing but common household materials to build bridges to carry as much weight as possible, and then as an extra challenge, converted those bridges into towers that were as tall as possible.
Campers then learned Newton's Laws and split in to groups to demonstrate them in everyday applications, such as differentiating between raw and boiled eggs, and the old tablecloth trick. Our last build challenge of the day was demonstrating Newton's third law through the designing and building of cars powered only by a balloon.
